OCCUPATIONAL CARE
Warehouse and truck driver back pain in Stockton: practical relief that lasts.
Stockton sits at the intersection of major freight routes and Amazon, Costco, and other large distribution facilities. We see a lot of warehouse workers, forklift operators, and truck drivers in our office. The pattern is predictable: years of repetitive lifting, twisting, and sitting eventually catches up with the lower back. Here is what we do about it.
Why this work breaks down the spine
Three things drive most warehouse and trucking back pain: repetitive bending and lifting, prolonged sitting (especially with whole-body vibration in trucks), and twisting under load. Over years, these stress the lumbar discs, irritate the facet joints, and weaken the deep stabilizing muscles. The result is the familiar deep ache, sharp catches with certain movements, and morning stiffness.
Common diagnoses we see in this population
- Lumbar disc bulges and herniations
- Sciatica from L4-L5 or L5-S1 nerve compression
- Facet joint irritation
- Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
- Degenerative disc disease, often starting in the 30s and 40s
- Muscle spasm and chronic guarding
What treatment looks like
Chiropractic adjustments restore motion to stuck joints. Spinal decompression can take pressure off compressed discs. Soft tissue therapy releases the chronic muscle tightness that builds up over years. We add specific exercises to rebuild the deep core stability that protects the spine during lifting.
Lifting and posture habits that matter
Keep loads close to your body. Hinge at the hips and bend the knees, not the lower back. Avoid twisting under load — turn your feet. For drivers: adjust the lumbar support, take a true 10-minute break out of the seat every two hours, and stretch the hip flexors daily. Small habit changes prevent flares.
When the job has caused real damage
If imaging shows significant disc damage or you are already considering surgery, conservative care still has a role. Many patients who thought they needed surgery have avoided it with a focused course of chiropractic, decompression, and rehab. We will tell you honestly when conservative care is unlikely to be enough.
