CONCUSSION CARE
Concussion recovery in Stockton: how chiropractic supports return to play.
A concussion is a brain injury, but the neck almost always takes the hit too. After the initial medical evaluation, many athletes still have headaches, dizziness, neck pain, and brain fog that linger long after the cleared-to-return-to-play date. Addressing the cervical spine is often the missing piece.
Why the neck matters after a concussion
The same force that rattles the brain also strains the cervical spine. Whiplash-type injuries to the neck cause many of the same symptoms as a concussion: headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and visual issues. Research now shows that cervical and vestibular problems contribute to a large share of persistent post-concussion symptoms.
When to add chiropractic care
Always start with proper medical evaluation. Once acute concussion management is underway and your physician has cleared you, gentle chiropractic care for the neck can help resolve cervical contributions to your symptoms. We work alongside primary care, neurology, and athletic trainers.
What treatment looks like
Care includes gentle cervical adjustments, soft tissue therapy for the upper neck muscles, balance and oculomotor exercises when appropriate, and a graded return-to-activity plan. Treatment is paced to symptoms — we never push through dizziness or headache.
Working with UOP Tigers Basketball
Premier Chiropractic is the official chiropractor of University of the Pacific Tigers Basketball. We have a long history of working with collegiate and recreational athletes through return-to-play protocols. Whether you are a college athlete, a weekend warrior, or a parent of a youth player, the approach is the same: careful evaluation, conservative care, and clear communication with your medical team.
When symptoms persist
If headaches, dizziness, or fog persist more than two weeks after a head injury, it is worth a cervical evaluation. Many athletes get stuck in prolonged recovery because the neck was never addressed. Often a few weeks of targeted care makes a substantial difference.
