HEADACHES AFTER AN ACCIDENT
Headaches after a car accident in Stockton?
Headaches that develop or worsen after an auto accident are very common, and they are often missed or under-treated. The connection between cervical spine injury and headache is well-established. Treating the source of the headache is more effective than chasing the symptom with medication.
UNDERSTANDING THE INJURY
Why accidents cause headaches
Most post-accident headaches are cervicogenic, meaning they originate from injury or dysfunction in the cervical spine. The upper cervical region (the C1, C2, and C3 vertebrae and their surrounding tissues) shares nerve pathways with structures in the head and face. When those tissues are inflamed or restricted, pain refers into the head, often felt at the base of the skull, behind the eyes, or in the temples.
Other post-accident headaches can include tension-type headaches from muscle guarding, migraine activation triggered by the injury, and post-concussive headaches when there is also a head impact involved. Each type benefits from a different treatment approach, which is why proper evaluation matters.

OUR APPROACH
Our headache treatment approach
We start by identifying the headache type and source. Cervicogenic headaches respond well to gentle upper cervical chiropractic adjustments, suboccipital soft tissue work, and trigger point therapy. We address the cervical dysfunction that is driving the headache, which gets to the cause rather than masking the symptom.
For post-concussive presentations, we coordinate with neurology when appropriate. For migraine activation, we use conservative cervical care while you may also work with your primary care or neurologist on medication management. The treatment plan reflects the specific headache pattern, not a generic approach.
WHY PREMIER
Why Stockton patients choose us
Post-accident headaches are often dismissed or treated as a generic tension headache. We take them seriously. Our exam differentiates cervicogenic, migraine, and post-concussive components so the treatment matches the actual problem. When your case needs documentation of headache frequency, severity, and triggers, we capture it.
